Distilled Deionized Water
There are many different types of purified water on the
market. To get the best water you need to know the differences
between the different types. As far as pure water goes you will
often hear about both distilled and deionized water.
How do you know which is better? It depends on what you are
looking for in water and what you will use it for as to which
will be the best choice.
Distilled Water
Distilled water is water that has every impurity removed
through vaporizing the water and then recollecting it.
Distilled water is the purest of all water options. It contains
nothing but pure, clean water and is free of all impurities and
any other additive in the water.
Distilled water also has no odor and no taste. It is
essentially just a clear liquid. All matter ionic and nonionic
is removed.
Deionized Water
Still a pure form of water that is much more pure than tap
water, deionized water is one step down from distilled water in
purity. Deionized water goes through a reverse osmosis process
where it is deionized. This means that ionic matter is removed.
However, with deionized water the nonionic matter is not
removed.
Making The Choice
While both types of water – distilled and deionized water –
provide you with purer water than you can get straight from the
tap, distilled water is the best quality water choice. If you
want a simple pure water than distilled water is your best
option. If your concern is about bacteria or viruses in the
water then you must choice distilled because deionized water
does not have bacteria or viruses removed.
If your main concern is just making the water more pure and
removing sedatives and matter like iron and sodium from the
water and you want a simple and cost effective method then
deionized water may be the better choice. Distilling water in a
whole house system can be expensive and it takes quite a bit of
maintenance because of cleaning involved with the system due to
the removed matter. Deionized water systems do not leave behind
matter that causes build up.
As mentioned, choosing between distilled and deionized water
is a choice that is personal. You have to consider your needs
and the extent of purification you want form the water before
you can make the right choice for you.
